a young girl, a virgin. This is an exten-sion of the last sense, although modern users of the word may derive it simply from the notion of something sweet or delicious.
1b.
South African
an attractive young female. Recorded as an item of Sowetan slang in the Cape Sunday Times, 29 Jan-uary 1995.
1c.
maidenhead, virginity. The word is usually part of the phrase 'to lose one's cherry', said normally of girls but occa-sionally of boys. The expression is old (dating at least from the late 19th cen-tury) but has not been superseded. It derives from the supposed similarity of the fruit to the hymen.

the tip of a lit cigarette

new, fresh and attractive. A term used by teenagers and young adults since the 1970s in the USA and subsequently elsewhere. It evokes both the shininess of the fruit and the figurative sense of virginity.
